Orphaned at the age of five in a rural Thai village, Lek is thrust into a life-long struggle to find his place in the world. At the age of fifteen, he finds himself brandishing a rifle as a boy soldier… But a stranger intervenes and offers him hope : thus begins Lek’s journey to become Dr. Amporn Wathanavongs. In 1998, at the age of 61, he fulfills his need to help the poor and uneducated by creating the Foundation for the Rehabilitation and Development of Children and Family (FORDEC), a legacy of hope and possibilities for thousands of destitute Thai children.
Chantal Jauvin, a Canadian lawyer and writer, met Dr Wathanavongs in Bangkok in 2010, but it took another 5 years for the book to be published.
All author proceeds being donated to FORDEC.
