La Société de Lecture est heureuse de vous convier à une rencontre avec Vladimir Kramnik.
In 2019, after more than two decades at the top level, Vladimir Kramnik shook up the chess world by announcing his retirement at the age of 43. A prodigy and former student of the legendary Mikhail Botvinnik School, he shocked the world in 2000 by ending Garry Kasparov’s fifteen-year hegemony, before extending his own reign for eight years. Books such as Stephan Zweig’s The Chess Player or recently the serie The Queen’s Gambit have left their mark on our imagination. This exceptional encounter will give you the opportunity to better understand the state of mind of a chess genius. The son of an artist and a music teacher, Vladimir Kramnik has always had a different approach to the game than most other players. The 14th World Chess Champion describes himself as someone who was not really competitive, a characteristic that he felt gave him a psychological advantage over his greatest rivals, since, unlike them, he was never afraid of losing. Vladimir Kramnik’s autobiography, Kramnik: My Life and Games, was published with Iakov Damsky (Everyman Chess, 2000).
